So I found this awesome project on one of my favorite sites, This Is Glamorous via a new favorite of mine, Honestly...WTF?, a style blog with great DIY ideas and little tidbits of style inspiration.
I was inspired so my sister and I drove out to Home Depot, where I asked the portly gentleman dressed in an orange apron where the bolts were. He looked at me for a second, standing before him in a cute plaid shell jacket with my vintage oxfords and pointed to the nut section. Not particularly friendly but at least he recognized me for the hardware challenged fashion enthusiast that I am.
We picked up a box of 100 silver nuts, then decided we might want to do the bracelet in gold as well, so we bought up their supply of brass - 24 packets in all. The portly gentleman was not pleased.
When we came to the kitchen twine section we discovered that Home Depot carries a range of fishing twine in various neon colours. This made our shopping trip that should have cost me $10.00 at the most suddenly skyrocket to the level of shoe shopping. Read: expensive.
In total, we spent $30.00 on pink and white twine and close to 400 brass and silver nuts. In the end totally worth it. When we got the hang of it, it became addictive and we quickly made 4 bracelets each, thus using up our large supply and making the money worth it.
You should try this, they look great (my terrible photo taking skills aside) and they're therapeutic. (Just trust me) I even made a special pink one for my gal Annika. Happy un-birthday sweetie.
